When you complain, you make yourself into a victim

"When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness." - - Eckhart Tolle, The Power of Now

That final line, "All else is madness" is so strong that it reverberates right through me every time I read it. There is so much power hidden in this quote and in the idea that we do not have to choose to be victims to our own negativity. Complaining without acting is such an easy trap for me and, I imagine, for lots of us.

After reading this, I finally confronted a situation head-on that I had avoided - but complained about - for five months. Today, I realize that I had a lot invested in avoiding. It was so much easier to complain. Taking action meant that the control for what would happen next would be in someone else's hands. As long as I was complaining, I was stuck, yes, but I was also in charge.

Then this quote showed up and completely shook me up. I would rather take action - no matter how frightening - than embrace the role of "victim."

How about you? Do you think Eckhart Tolle is right? If so, what do you need to speak out about or act on?
